Frequently asked questions
Soy wax is a vegetable wax that is derived from soybeans. Once the soy beans are harvested, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and rolled into flakes. The oil is extracted from the flakes and then undergoes a hydrogenation process that converts the fatty acids of the oil into saturated which become a solid at room temperature. The U.S. is a leading supplier of soybeans.
The flora inside your candle will stay on the side of the glass as you burn your candle, often times letting the glow of the wax illuminate details of your flower or leaf. Should you choose to wash your jar, the flower will go away, but you will be left with a clean jar for reuse or return for a candle core credit.
Yes! All of the flora (flowers, fern frauds, leaves) inside the candles are real as well as hand picked and pressed. They often come from my personal home garden and yard.
Many flowers come from my yard and garden, and also from between cracks of vacant lots or soon to be mowed areas. They are very commonly overlooked every day as “weeds”. The flowers are never collected from protected areas or sensitive habitats.
This is caused by the way that soy wax burns, and is only found in pure soy candles. It is strictly cosmetic and will not affect the way your candle burns.
Because Whistle While You Wick cares about sustainability and waste prevention, we offer a candle core credit in which customers can return their used candle container in person for 20% off their next candle. The container does not need to be cleaned and can be returned with wax in it. This is an attempt to reduce and reuse. If you cannot return your candle container in person, we do still hope you consider washing and reusing your jar! We would love to see your ideas.
Unlike traditional paraffin candles which are made from a petroleum byproduct, soy is “clean”” and does not contain carcinogens, toxins or allergy irritants. Soy comes from the renewable resource of soy beans which is natural, carbon neutral, and supports local farmers. Soy candles can burn twice as long as paraffin candles and because soy wax is soap and water soluble, your jar can be reused when done burning. Many candles on the market including those from top brands may be labeled “soy” but have up to 90% paraffin wax. All WWYW candles are 100% soy.
